BEAR STORY

Oscar award for Best Animated Short Film.
2014/short film/10 minutes

An old bear goes out every day to the same corner to put on a street show with a small theater that he has built himself and filled with tin puppets. Passers-by can see the story of a circus bear who was separated from his family and his journey to return home.

Bear Story is an animated short film inspired by the life of Leopoldo Osorio, Gabriel Osorio’s grandfather, during his days as a political exile during the military dictatorship. Its production took two years and, since its premiere in 2014, it has been awarded more than 60 international awards. In 2016 it won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film, making Chile the first country in Latin America to receive the award in this category.
